Epoxy Injection: Myths and Misunderstandings

Epoxy Injection: Myths and Misunderstandings is a presentation designed for contractors, engineers, and restoration professionals who already have experience with epoxy injection and want to better understand what truly drives successful results. Rather than covering basic fundamentals, the presentation focuses on common mistakes, persistent myths, and frequently misunderstood aspects of the injection process that can negatively impact performance. Topics include the critical role of surface sealing, effective port placement strategies, injection methods (port-to-port versus inject-to-refusal and manifolding), air entrapment concerns, whether and when moving cracks should be injected, the pros and cons of crack cleaning, and practical quality control measures such as equipment testing, core sampling, and nondestructive testing.

Robert Trout is the President of Lily Corporation, a manufacturer of proportioning dispensers and specialty hardware for the construction industry, with a focus on concrete repair and restoration. He has been affiliated with Lily Corporation for more than 30 years, during which time the company has worked closely with the concrete restoration industry through both equipment manufacturing and application training.

Trout is a frequent presenter at International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) meetings and has chaired the University of Wisconsin Extension Program on Concrete and Masonry Repair. He has contributed to the development of cold-weather epoxy injection at the University of Ghent in Belgium, served as a guest instructor at the University of California, Chico, and conducted epoxy injection training throughout the U.S. and internationally. He is a member of ICRI and the American Concrete Institute and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from St. John’s University, Collegeville, Minnesota.
